Commercial shipping visible transiting the Strait of Hormuz over the past 24 hours, via continues to overwhelmingly favor the Iranian (northern) traffic separation scheme, with approximately 10 completed merchant vessel transits. At least two of those vessels initially appeared to be routing toward the U.S.-supported southern corridor through Omani waters, but altered course before entering the Strait and instead crossed over to the Iranian traffic separation scheme. Overall, only one vessel was observed completing its transit via the Omani (southern) corridor. While additional vessels may be transiting with their Automatic Identification System (AIS) disabled and therefore not visible on publicly available tracking data, doing so would be contrary to current Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) guidance, which advises vessels to maintain AIS transmissions, radar, navigation lights, and continuous VHF radio monitoring while transiting the Strait.
