Iraq's $24 billion "Development Road" project, connecting Faw Port through Turkey to Europe, was inaugurated by Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in 2025, aiming to reduce dependence on routes controlled by the Islamic Republic of Iran. The first 63-kilometer section of the route is set for completion by 2028, alongside the development of alternative routes like Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline and the UAE's Adcap pipeline.
