An Iranian resident in Tehran is using expensive virtual private networks (VPNs) to bypass internet restrictions and share firsthand accounts of life during the 2025-2026 Iranian revolution, beyond state-controlled media narratives.
On the 56th day of the international internet shutdown in Iran, Alireza Solimi, a member of the parliament's presidium, stated that the restrictions are a security measure, differing from the positions of Masoud Pezeshkian and the Minister of Communications, and added, "In the midst of war, one shouldn't speak politically."

The Tasnim News Agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, announced that the Islamic Republic could disrupt communication in Persian Gulf countries by damaging internet cables passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The agency stated that Persian Gulf countries depend on these sea cables for more than 90 percent of their internet connectivity, while Iran relies on them for only 30 percent.
