Scam messages promising safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for cryptocurrency payments have been identified by maritime risk management firm MariSkz, which warns that these communications from individuals claiming to represent the Islamic Republic's authorities are fraudulent. At least two ships, including an oil tanker, reported being fired upon and forced to turn back by Islamic Republic boats on April 29 when the strait was temporarily reopened for inspections.
