On Tuesday, May 5, the U.S. Secretary of Defense warned that Iran would face "overwhelming firepower" if it attacked commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, as part of the "Operation Prosperity Guardian" to counter Iran's alleged unlawful dominance over the strategic waterway. General Dan Caine, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, stated that Iran has fired upon commercial ships nine times and seized two container ships since the ceasefire was announced.
