In an interview with Israel's Channel 12 on March 5, 2026, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz revealed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu decided in November 2025 to assassinate former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, with the planned execution set for June 2026. Katz also stated that the January 2026 protests, during which thousands of Iranian protesters were killed, expedited these plans.
