Since early May 2025, the U.S. military has been secretly escorting ship-to-ship oil transfers off the coasts of the UAE and Oman, involving at least 92 ships, drones, and helicopters to ensure Gulf exports pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Reuters identified the transfer points off Fujairah and Sohar using shipping data, satellite imagery, and sources familiar with the operation.
