On Thursday, April 6, 2025, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on social network X that Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the IRGC Navy, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Bandar Abbas. CENTCOM commander Brad Cooper stated that Tangsiri was designated a "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" in 2019 and subject to additional sanctions in 2024 for his role in developing drones used to attack vessels.
