U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has declared the detention of Kamran Hakimti, a 61-year-old Iranian-American Jewish citizen imprisoned in Iran, as an "unjust detention," citing false charges and potential use as leverage against the U.S. government. Hakimti, suffering from bladder cancer, is one of at least six U.S. citizens or permanent residents held in Evin Prison in Tehran, where he was arrested last year on charges related to traveling to Israel, despite evidence to the contrary.
