On Wednesday evening, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that over 100 million barrels of oil and more than 200 commercial ships have passed through the Strait of Hormuz since last month, following a U.S. naval operation to support oil tanker and commercial shipping traffic in the strait. Trump claimed this operation was a result of his classified directive to U.S. forces in May.
