The New York Times reported that Gulf states, including Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, have detained more than 100 Shiites on charges of treason during the Iran war. In Bahrain, 69 people were stripped of their citizenship and 41 others were detained, including 37 Shiite clerics accused of ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; in the UAE, 27 people were accused of membership in a "Shiite terrorist organization."
