Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, announced on July 8 that the body of former Islamic Republic leader Ali Khamenei would also have a funeral procession in Iraq, despite earlier statements by the secretary of the funeral committee that no such plans existed and all arrangements would be within Iran. Khamenei's body is scheduled to be buried in Mashhad on July 9.
