The Center for War Studies reported that Ahmad Vahidi, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and his inner circle have repeatedly dismissed efforts by Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, and other pragmatic officials to push the regime towards a more flexible position in negotiations. The report suggests Vahidi's victory in this internal power struggle may lead the regime to adopt a more maximalist and uncompromising approach.
