Reports related to deaths and injuries
On the evening of February 28 (ninth of Esfand), video footage shows people in Tehran celebrating after news of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's death was broadcast.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, is reported to have been killed in joint Israeli and U.S. attacks on February 27, 2026. Khamenei succeeded Ruhollah Khomeini as the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1989.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, stated on Saturday evening that there are numerous signs suggesting Ali Khamenei is no longer alive, and announced that Israel had killed several senior Iranian officials and key figures in Iran’s nuclear program during attacks on Saturday morning in Tehran’s Pasteur district.
A senior Israeli official informed Reuters that Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has been killed and his body found. Iranian officials have not yet commented on the report.

Reuters, citing sources, reports that Israeli attacks today are believed to have killed Iran's Defense Minister Amir Hatami and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Mohammad Pakpour.
The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, stated in an interview with NBC News that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking officials, including Masoud Pezeshkian, are alive, though he acknowledged the possibility of one or two commanders being killed in attacks on Tehran on February 28. Araghchi also expressed Iran's readiness to de-escalate tensions and indicated willingness to engage in dialogue with the United States.
Reuters, citing informed sources, reported that Israel's recent attacks killed two senior Islamic Republic officials: Defense Minister Amir Hatami and IRGC Commander Mohammad Pakpour. The Islamic Republic has not officially confirmed these reports.
